This specimen features an amazing cluster of Lazurite on a matrix in association with Pyrite and Calcite. It is from Sar-e-Sang mines in Badakhshan, Afghanistan, a locality renowned for producing the finest Lapis Lazuli and Lazurite in history. Coveted for thousands of years, Lazurite is the primary component of Lapis Lazuli, a gemstone revered as the “stone of kings” since ancient times. Used by pharaohs, emperors, and artists throughout history, its deep blue hue symbolized wealth, power, and divinity.
Unlike most specimens, which are often cut for gemstones, this piece features a sharply defined, freestanding Lazurite with several crystals. The crystals exhibit an intense, naturally vibrant blue with outstanding luster and saturation—far superior to the typical rock-forming material found in this deposit. Unlike some lower-quality specimens that are artificially enhanced, this one boasts a completely natural color, free from polishing or treatment.
The striking contrast between the Lazurite and its matrix further enhances its visual appeal, making it a rare and highly desirable collector’s piece.
